The first hydrogen taxi is now on the roads in Aarhus
The first hydrogen taxi is now driving around in the streets of Aarhus. This is a result of the partnership between Aarhus & Horsens Taxi and Aarhus Municipality in collaboration with Via Biler and the Hydrogen Denmark’s member Toyota Denmark, Everfuel, Nel Hydrogen, and not least financial support from H2ME 2.
Aarhus’ first hydrogen taxi is part of the H2ME 2 project, which has received support from the joint venture ‘Fuel Cells and Hydrogen 2’. This Joint Undertaking receives funding from the EU’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program, ‘Hydrogen Europe and Hydrogen Europe Research’,
The goal for Aarhus & Horsens Taxi is even more hydrogen taxis, and we are working intensively with approaches that create an incentive for the group’s hauliers and members to take the lead in the process towards green conversion and zero emissions. However, there is no cheap or easy way to achieve this goal.
The challenge lies in the purchasing process, as there are still only two suppliers of hydrogen cars. In addition, there is only one hydrogen filling station in Aarhus so far, which means that taxi drivers must take their routes into account in relation to the infrastructure of filling stations. However, Everfuel will establish another hydrogen filling station in Aarhus shortly.
However, the benefits of hydrogen cars can outweigh the challenges: refueling of hydrogen cars typically takes only 3-5 minutes, and its range of up to 650 km is longer than that of an electric car.
